I purchased the Maui Coffee Company 100% Maui coffee to try as a lower cost alternative to their 100% Kona. Although the coffee itself is quite good, it was not a good replacment for pure Kona. The Maui does not have the same smooth and syrupy taste as Kona. The Maui coffee is a dark roast with rich flavor, slightly acidic, and full bodied. It is fresh when it arrives, and the cost is less from Amazon than buying direct from the roaster's website.The package is a foil bag with an air relief valve on it. They come with a small metal clip to ensure freshness of the opened bag. You just fold the top over, attach the (quite strong) clip, and evacuate the air through the valve. The clip seals the bag much better than the typical wire closure others provide. The 7 ounce bag is a good size for brewing home coffee, and helps keep the beans fresh since you are opening a smaller package of whole beans. They do not get the chance to dry out and deteriorate as quickly when opened in smaller quantities.Be careful not to be decieved by the size of the packages versus the pricing. These are 7 ounce packages (the description in the text says 8oz), so you recieve 1.3 pounds of coffee at approximately $26.50/lb (as of 11/2012). Not a bad price for the quality of coffee you get, but a bit high.

I having been drinking this particular Maui brand of Maui Coffee for years.. I always opt for the whole bean product and generally purchase the coffee thru a Hawaiian distributor but elected the Amazon purchase to take advantage of " free shipping".. Though obviously not up to the excellence that is afforded if drinking in the islands, it is still a very tasty blend and far superior to most coffee available on the the Eastcoast....
