Well I did save money, but...After using Sweet Marias for a long time for green beans and see their prices go up, I thought I would try some other sources. I now realize how important it is to have the lot of coffee beans cuppped ahead of time and reviewed. Like wine, not all coffee beans from the same region taste the same. Even from the same farm, the quality will vary from year to year. I have never got a bad batch of beans from Sweet Marias, they cup and review every lot they sell. Unfortunately this batch I got was not very good and I am stuck with a 5 lb bag. IMO you take a chance when you buy beans like this. It is a good deal if you happen to get a good batch, otherwise it is a waste of money.

Ever since I visited the fincas of Boquete in '08 I have looked for these beans, so when I started roasting my own this is where I go for dependable flavor at a reasonable price. These beans like a darker roast, to city or better. They produce a rich mouth, not too acidy, and a smooth finish. I'm not one to note hints of berries, pepper, etc., just a good cup'a joe.
