It is made of the sweetest coffee beans that have gone through a civet’s digestive tract. Our coffee beans are from civets that are wild and free to roam around in the wilderness. They feed from coffee trees that naturally grow in the area. This Sumatra Gayo luwak coffee comes from the Gayo highlands of Central Aceh, Sumatra. The coffee beans are organically grown without fertilizers and are widely known as “green beans” for being environmentally friendly. These coffee beans are grown at 1,100-1,500 meters (3,600-5,000 feet) above sea level. Only the best coffee beans are grown at such high altitudes. Sumatra Gayo luwak coffee is heavy bodied with light acidity. Its taste is smooth, earthy, and sweet with a hint of caramel or chocolate. It has a clean after taste.

I'm a discerning coffee drinker. I have a fully stocked coffee bar at home with several different machines. I was stoked to try the Kopi Luwak. While it's good, I wouldn't call it great. First, I tried a double shot of espresso (they included 2 free 10g ground packets with my order, so I used those for the espresso). The texture was smooth as expected, but it was still more bitter than I would have liked, and more than I expected after doing my research on Kopi Luwak. Was it a better shot than a typical Starbucks shot, or something you might get at a local coffee shop? Sure. Was it amazing? Not so much.Second, I tried drip coffee. My machine brews around 190 degrees. I did 2 tablespoons for each 6 ounces. I'd read that Kopi Luwak is best brewed in smaller amounts, so I did 4 cups (24oz. total), which was 8 tablespoons of grounds, or roughly 36 grams. Again, it was good, with a robust and complex flavor unlike anything else I can remember trying. I drank the entire 24oz in one setting, over an hour or so. Considering the amount of coffee I used, that 24oz brew cost around $18.I'm going to experiment a bit more (french press might be next), but all in all, I'm happy with it. I just don't see myself ordering it very often. If it's something you've been thinking about trying as a coffee connoisseur, you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. This seller is great, and I'd recommend getting it from them.

I tried this coffee recently at a holiday brunch. It smelled delicious brewing but the scent from the cup made me wonder. It smelled very earthy, almost grass-like. I tried it black so I didn't 'pollute' the true taste. I was pleasantly surprised at how even it tasted for having such a strong aroma. I am a light-roast (breakfast blend) sort of coffee drinker, but I have to say that even my mild pallet could enjoy this complex cup of imported coffee!

So I will say that I was very skeptical about this coffee because of where it comes from, an animal actually eats it and poops it out! But, the whole reason behind it is weird at first, but it is quite possibly the smoothest and least bitter coffee ever made! I like the small size of this packaging and the re-closeable aspect, compared to 1 pound bags which don't reclose. Dealing with the vendor was great, very nice and got the product fast! Highly recommend this coffee, don't be scared, you'll fall in love with this and it's very worth the price!
